Much better than Razzle Dazzle '86, by the way, and I see this incredible showgirl, Vanessa, right Our eyes meet. Ba-boom! This lightning bolt of passion shoots across the casino. Turns out, Vanessa's on her way to the Philippines to do a Bob Hope special.
[Danny shows Jesse his new room. Stephanie's bed is still there, as is a wooden table and chairs.]Danny: Nice, huh Roomy. Not overly masculineJesse: Oh golly, it's swell. Let's step back: The first season, which aired a decade or so ago in late 2019, was the prestige drama project that Apple wanted to use to launch its streaming service: Big names! Current events! Finger on the pulse! Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston played a newbie and a veteran morning show host, respectively, who are thrown together after Aniston's former on-air partner, played by Steve Carell, is fired following a sexual harassment scandal.
And so, Season 2 presents a curious question for The Morning Show: What do you do when your show has all the talent and money in the world, but the first season just didn't work You can't just move on, because you're a tentpole for the streaming service you're working for, which might as well be called We Print Money TV+, and all they want is to make you a success.
What do you do with a second season Double down Make changes Push ahead Oh, and remember, before you answer: Your first season about television production and the magic of being wealthy in New York City aired right before a pandemic hit and changed everything about television production and the magic of ... well, being wealthy somewhere while maintaining a residence in New York City.
At first, it seems weird, but honestly, it's very sad. I suspect that they conceived this season when it was clear that a vaccine was in sight, and they thought that by September 2021 when the season dropped, things would be going well. They thought we'd be doing better than we are. They thought we'd be feeling more ready to process it.
If you strongly feel the scene is unnecessary and offensive, and there's no reason for any show to have content like this, then perhaps skip to the next page. You and I are hopefully starting a long recapper-and-reader relationship, and I frankly don't want to lose you over a difference of opinion about a single scene in the first episode. But if you're open to some debate on this, let me take a swing at making a case for why this scene isn't like typical TV violence.
On the first level, the scene supports the show's plot. Watching the Westworld pilot and decrying this attack is like watching the first episode in a slave rebellion drama and objecting to how the slaves are treated. You need to show cruel abuse to establish the stakes of the story and the plight of the protagonists. And Westworld is looking like it's very much going to be a slave rebellion drama, it's just not advertised that way upfront.
After eight years, Lorelai and Rory are back, along with everything you know and loved about Stars Hollow. And much like the town itself, the first episode in the highly (to say the very least) anticipated revival of Gilmore Girls is a collection of oddities, a snapshot of something we know exceedingly well but has changed ever so slightly.
In creating a practical effect, a grid consisting of fluorescent lights was installed onto the set that housed Sterling Cooper's main office. The show's art department bought several 2-by-2 four-tube fixtures, which was determined to be accurate relative to the time period. The shipments arrived on the first day of filming the pilot.[7] However, examination by the set-lighting crew revealed the lightbulbs used were internally modernized, having been designed to hold T-8 bulbs measuring two feet each. \"Getting more than 800 2-foot color-corrected T-8 tubes became a major issue, and none of the regular suppliers had enough in stock,\" recalled Mike Ambrose, the gaffer for the production team in Los Angeles. \"Movietone stopped production of whatever bulbs it was making, retooled the plant and started manufacturing the T-8s we needed. The last shipment arrived the morning of our first day of shooting.\"[7]
Troy Patterson of Slate drew comparisons to the HBO comedy-drama Sex and the City, and affirmed that it introduced a lewd and cynical perspective of the so-called \"golden age\" of advertisement.[25] Nancy Franklin of The New Yorker concluded that \"Smoke Gets in Your Eyes\" was \"smart and tremendously attractive\",[26] while Seattle Post-Intelligencer journalist Melanie McFarland felt that it was a rarity compared to other television installments.[27] Writing for the Boston Globe, Matthew Gilbert remarked that the setting and design were immediately distinguishable. Gilbert wrote, \"This is a gorgeously fashioned period piece, from its IBM typewriters and rotary phones to the constant fog of cigarette smoke hanging over every scene. The show has a subtle color palette, to match the ivory metal Venetian blinds at the Sterling Cooper ad agency offices, but it may sit in your memory as if it had been filmed in black and white.\"[28] Citing its authenticity as an episode highlight, Randy Cordova from the Arizona Republic noted that \"Smoke Gets in Your Eyes\" was well-constructed.[29]
The episode then jumps back to two months earlier, when we are formally introduced to the show's three main protagonists, watching them as they individually stroll down the streets of New York City. On the surface Charles is a struggling actor, Mabel is a very lonely creative and Oliver is an eccentric director who is partial to a glass of vino now and then.
The episode spends most of the first half showing the preparation behind the first human mission to Mars via Providence 1. It will take 2.5 years to complete the mission and it will have 5 astronauts participating. The background score sets the tone for the episode as the hustle bustle of the space station takes over.
